Survivor: Second Chances is the eighteenth season of the second generation Suitman's Survivor Series, which began on August 30, 2014, and ended with a live reunion on September 16, 2014.

It ended with Jeremy B. defeating Ranz T. and Shadi C. at the Final Tribal Council in a 7-1-0 Jury vote. At the Reunion, Sagar won Player of the Season, while Ryan won Fan Favorite.

Production

This season features twenty former castaways, all of whom were voted out pre-merge or pre-jury, returning for a second chance to play the game. The two tribes of ten for this season are named after places in Panama. The tribes are Coetupo, wearing green, and Gualaca, in black. The tribe insignias are drawings of a man (Coetupo) and a spider (Gualaca). On Day 10, they merged into Atalaya, wearing yellow.

The full cast of Second Chancers were hand-picked by the host. The candidates were invited for being pre-merge or pre-jury boots who showed promise during their short time in the game. The full cast of 20 and tribal designations were revealed on August 27, 2014.

In the cast three are three pre-merge/jury boots from Saint Lucia and Cursed Hand, two from Mongolia, Brazil, Seychelles, Brunei and Friends vs. Favorites, plus one each from Jordan, Venezuela, Caicos Islands and Vietnam. There are no returning castaways from the two all-returnee seasons, All-Stars and Moral vs. Merciless, nor from Great Britain, East Timor, Occultus Island, or the most recent season, Reclamation.

The Second Chances theme would later return for Survivor: Unfinished Business. It was revised so that any one-time non-winners could be eligible, with the full cast of 20 decided by a Public Vote.

Twists

• The Madhouse: Combination of Redemption Island and Occultus Island twists. When players are voted out they do not go home. They instead face off in a head-to-head duel with another voted out player to earn a spot in the next stage. The winner advances while the loser is out for good. Once a certain number of people have advanced, the successful candidates will compete in a condensed version of the Survivor post-merge, all taking place on one day, to decide who will re-enter the game.
• Instant Idols: The castaways were asked on Day 1 and Day 5 if they would like a hidden immunity idol. If they said yes they could have one - however as a punishment they were unable to compete in the next few immunity challenges for their tribe and it was known to all that they had an idol. Although no one took an idol on Day 1, five people took the chance when the opportunity returned at the Tribe Switch on Day 5.
• Returning Players: Twenty former castaways returned this season for a second chance to play the game. All of the returning castaways were voted out pre-merge or pre-jury in their respective first seasons, yet showed potential to be good players.
• Double Tribe Switch: On Day 5, the Coetupo and Gualaca tribes underwent a tribe switch, mixing up the tribes. Then on Day 8, there was a shock second switch.
• Tribe Mutiny: On Day 6, one day after the swap, the castaways were given the chance to mutiny to the other tribe if they were unhappy with their new swapped one. Cole and Jeremy took this chance.
• Double Tribal Council: On Day 5, both tribes went to Tribal Council to vote someone out, with the challenge being individual. Then, on Day 13, One Day Tribes was initiated.
• One Day Tribes: The nine remaining castaways were divided back into two tribes, just for a Double Tribal Council that day, before reverting back to a normal merged tribe. Immunity Winner Ryan picked one person to join him on his tribe. He chose Jeremy.
• Hidden Immunity Idols: There was one hidden idol placed in each tribe camp, which can be found by correctly guessing the answer to the clues sent daily to the immune tribe. There was also an extra hidden idol in the post-merge camp.
